Techwriter'2025

Over the past two years, we (documentat.io) have conducted two large sociological studies of the Russian-speaking tech writing community and engaged with over 100 engineering teams and businesses looking to develop their documentation.

Thanks to this, we can combine two perspectives: how technical writers view their profession and how businesses—their direct clients—perceive them. Based on this “overall” picture, I want to discuss what the profession of a technical writer looks like in Russia today and how it will evolve in the coming years.

We will discuss:
 • Why businesses need technical writers and how to plan career growth accordingly.
 • The differences between junior, middle, and senior technical writers (particularly from a business perspective).
 • What career goals are desirable for technical writers, and which ones are preferred by their employers.
 • Where to grow to be in high demand in the job market.
 • Where all this is heading and how it will change in the coming years.
