How to Establish Processes in a Corporation as the First Technical Writing Team

  • 40 min

I've been working in one of the largest IT companies in Russia for 11.5 years. I used to manage an editorial team of 15 people, and now I am applying my experience as a manager and editor to the team of technical writers.

There are only three of us, but there are more than 20 products to document. We need to find an approach to each team, prioritize and build processes for writing and updating documentation.

I will share my experience, tell how we built processes in a universal team with different requests from the business.

This talk will be useful for anyone who:

  • works in a team of any size,
  • wants to improve processes or build new ones,
  • trying to understand whether JIRA is necessary in a team of two people.

We'll discuss:

  • How and to whom to tell your company about yourself so that people come to you with tasks.
  • How to measure documentation quality and what metrics to collect.
  • Whether you can use a hybrid approach in your work (and what it is).
